about

ABOUT

We are a Special Olympics (SO) College, which means we are a college division of Special Olympics Michigan. We are a student organization here on campus that aims to provide sports opportunities for adults and children with different abilities in Ann Arbor and the surrounding areas. We play Unified, meaning our athletes and volunteers are all playing together. Our goal is to promote inclusivity, get some exercise, and have fun doing it!

Throughout the school year, we typically have four sports: basketball, soccer, flag football, and dance. These sports either take place during the fall, winter, spring, or a combination of these seasons. We have weekly practices where our athletes and volunteers get to play together, and usually at least one showcase or scrimmage/tournament against other SO Colleges in the Midwest for each sport. We also have multiple social events throughout the year as well as fundraisers to maintain our organization and to benefit Special Olympics Michigan.

Fundraising

Throughout the school year, we fundraise in order to rent fields and indoor spaces, equipment, jerseys, and supplies for our athletes to put on the best practices, games, and social events that we can. In the spring, we participate in Polar Plunge, which is a national fundraiser that involves us jumping into a pool of freezing cold water in the Big House! Polar Plunge profits go toward Special Olympics Michigan to allow them to hold large events for athletes all across the state, such as the Summer/Winter Games.
